THE WABASH CANNONBALL

DECEMBER 2009 • VOL. VIII Edition 12 • Member FOHBC • Since 1998

REMEMBER... Our next meeting is only a few days away, Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at Shadows Auction Barn, 1517 Maple Avenue, Terre Haute.

HELLO, once again all you fellow bottle and pottery collectors. November has came and went, December is here. The cold weather is out and frosting my windows. I am not a big fan of the cold However it is nice to change it up once in awhile.

DON’T FORGET we are having an extra meeting this month on Saturday Dec. 5th For a special presentation at Dr. Tony Stringlellows. 12:00 noon, everybody is welcome. Tony, Jo and the Stringfellow family will have an open house and is asking the club to visit. They have several nice collections to share with us. The address is 250 W. Washington St. Sullivan, md. You can take Washington street right off of U.S. 41, right past Wal-Mart on the left. This is easy to find but if you can’t the house phone number is 268-6602.

Here’s the minutes for Nov.: November meeting discussed the upcoming show. We are getting ready for the auction. We will have food tables and name tags for dealers. The advertising is all out and I think we’re ready. Show Results: the barn was full for the Friday night auction, John and Mary did a great job. There were several tables full of nice boffles, jars and the food tables were full. Thanks to all the members who brought desserts. I think we sold about 40 tables for the show, and about 100 to 125 people came thru the door. I hope everybody had a good time, I know I did. Ed.

The December Christmas meeting will still be held on December 10th and will be a carry in. The club will provide the meat tray and cheese’s. This is an annual event that the club sponsors. Please bring a covered dish and your own tableware (just in case) Please join us for the December meeting, it is always a great time.

The Terre Haute bottle show was another great success. I had one table and sold a lot actually. I talked to several people who also stated they had some good sales. I watched several boffles exchange hands. I also meet several new and interesting people. As always I had a wonderful time. I did miss several people who are normally at our bottle show. Including several key members. I hope everything is OK with them. Don’t worry I picked up what you missed out on, ha ha.

The auction on Friday brought in several lots that were unlisted JohnNewman theAuctioneer for Shadows placed the majority of items on Auctionzip.com. Avery handy web site indeed. The highlight of the auction was a Robinson, Ill. War bond milk bottle. There were several Terre Haute crown top bottles that were rare to the scene. Well OK not rare but hard to find. A Vigo Bottling Co., and a Red Crown Bottling Works bottle both from Terre Haute. A really nice Weiss beer from Henry Becker bottling works in a aqua variant. There was plenty of snacks for all the visiting people.

OK, I will expect to see you at the Christmas carry in, please bring a covered dish and your family.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and I hope all your bottle dreams come true... .M
